Dwight D. Eisenhower earned fame due to his military and presidential leadership. As General during World War II, he commanded Allied Forces on D-Day (1944), which liberated Europe from Nazi Germany. He served as 34th President of the United States (1953-1961) and was President at the end of (during) the Korean War (1953). Eisenhower also signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956, creating America’s Interstate Highway System, which revolutionized travel and commerce.
