The Great Depression began with the stock market crash on “Black Tuesday” in October 1929. The so-called Great Crash destroyed billions in wealth and led to massive unemployment, bank failures, and economic crisis across America that lasted through the 1930s. President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal programs eventually helped recovery.
