Below, you will find some brief facts about children of US citizens:
A US citizen may file a petition on behalf of his or her children under 18 years of age. The US citizenship will be granted automatically. In general, these laws require that at least one parent is a US citizen and that the US citizen parent has lived in the United States for a certain period of time.
The child of a US citizen who is under 18, does not need through the naturalization process and will be issued a Certificate of US Citizenship automatically. In some cases, the submission of an Application for a Certificate of Citizenship may be required: Instead of filing a Form N 400, a Form N 600 may be filed.
Once US citizenship is granted to the child, a US passport can be obtained even without a Certificate of Citizenship at the age of 18 or older.
A child under 14 years of age is not required to take the Oath of Allegiance.
Notice: The child must be unmarried! Some countries allow marriage under 18 with parental or judicial consent.
