Independence Day is a holiday to celebrate U.S. independence (from Britain) when the 13 colonies became the United States through the Declaration of Independence. Americans also call July 4th the country’s birthday, marked by fireworks, parades, barbecues, and the Stars and Stripes flag flying everywhere.
