Fee for Filing Application for US Naturalization N 400

The US Citizenship and Immigration Service charge a fee to process your application for naturalization. The payment can be made in the form of a check or money order, or by credit card, to the US Department of Homeland Security.

The application fee fluctuates and depends on your age and family or household income. As of 2016, it was established at the following levels:

For most people; biometric service fee of $ 85 is included.

$ 640

If you are 75 or older; biometric service fee is excluded.

$ 405

Reduced fee with a family income greater than 150%t but not more than 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Biometric service fee of $85 is included.*

No application fee for families for whom the fees are financially insurmountable. Their income may not exceed 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, and/or they may receive benefits through one
or more of the federal means-tested programs (Medicaid, SSI, SNAP, etc.). There is also no fee for those who currently serve in the US armed forces.*

*According to the Federal Poverty Guidelines for 2021, the applicant who has the following estimated annual income may be eligible to reduce or wave the N400 Application fee for US Naturalization.

Both for families with reduced or waved fees may submit their Application for fee reduction with their N400 forms by mail only, but not online.
