A growing nation

People in the United States come from all over the world. People who lived in the colonies were American Indians, Europeans, Africans, and others. After independence, the United States’ borders grew and changed.

So did its population. Immigrants came to the United States and made new homes. The United States also grew in size. Americans settled all over the country, reaching all the way to the Pacific Ocean on the West Coast.

Because of its history, Americans are a diverse group of people today.
